What does 'Made in Australia' actually mean?

We all come from a special place, agree?

Australia is diverse with its unique ties to so many nations, this enriches our country with many cultures, beliefs and religions and brings a wealth of knowledge from around the globe all into one place. This knowledge is being welcomed with open arms as it paves the way for greater advancements and innovations in all areas of health, manufacturing, mining and finance to name a few, in hopes of reflecting the vast variety of cultures available to us.

What qualifies as Australian made?

For a product to be classed as ‘Made in Australia’ some key criteria must be met.

The ‘textbook’ definition…

‘A product must have undergone substantial transformation within Australia’.

This means that if the product has been transformed in the way of form, appearance, or nature such that the goods existing after the change are now new and different than that of before the change, are then considered to be Australian Made. If simple processing has taken place such as repackaging or assembling this is likely to not qualify.

Why should I buy Australian made?

Over the years, the knowledge of Australian nurses has continued to enhance the design and manufacturing of medical equipment that is state-of-the-art and relevant. Healthcare equipment is now being designed purely from the inspiration of healthcare professionals and delivered back into the healthcare system to improve our great country and its partners. A ‘sale’ is no longer a closure of a deal but rather the beginning of another trusted and strong Australian relationship with those who sustain our great healthcare system.

Feedback is being absorbed with the intent of improving and shaping the designs and thinking behind innovation, which ultimately goes back into our economy. The mission… play the part of a local manufacturer and create partnerships with local companies to deliver on the promise of Australian Made! Supporting local fabricators, suppliers, assemblers, delivery drivers and maintenance specialists in the area lets you know that once a product is in your hands, it has been hand-made by Aussies, just like you!

How do I know if a product is Australian?

Australian Made products can be easily identifiable by the Australian Made logo which displays the symbolic Kangaroo encased in a triangle and depicted in the famous Aussie green and gold colours.

You may have noticed that the Modsel products don’t have the famous logo displayed on them however, our custom designed Australian Made logo is becoming well-known in the healthcare industry for its uniqueness and use of the native Koala. Paired with the iconic Modsel blue and pink the label can be found in a convenient spot across all the Modsel ranges.

Does it matter to me?

It’s definitely a personal decision to whether you purchase Australian Made products or not. There has been substantial amounts of research that support the theory that buying Australian Made is indeed important to us. An article from SmartCompany1 highlighted that nine out of ten Aussies are more likely to buy products that are made in Australia.
